While Concrete Paving Is Better Than Asphalt

The advantages of concrete paving compared to asphalt paving are numerous. Firstly, there is the colour. Concrete is a much brighter material and this allows for a cleaner driveway when you compare it to the basic black of asphalt. Another advantage is that concrete is very durable. This is why most footpaths  are paved with it. You will find that footpaths that are  paved with concrete will generally last a lot longer. The paving process is usually quite quick, which means there are less delays.

Another Reason Concrete Paving is Better

Another advantage of  concrete is its rigid, stiff nature. This means that  concrete will distribute the load evenly over any given  area. Any gaps that appear when pouring it can easily be filled. This makes concrete  also a lot easier to remove stains from and it can be painted in different colours using special paints or dyes. Try doing that with asphalt. Concrete is also able to handle heavy vehicles better and will keep its smooth surface for a lot longer.

When you compare concrete to asphalt, it is very flexible while concrete is rigid. This makes asphalt susceptible to cracks due to the normal shifts in the ground that happen throughout the year. Also concrete is better at resisting changes in the weather and temperature. If you pave your driveway with asphalt, you will always have to lay a base with gravel and stone. Then you let it settle for a while (unless you use a commercial roller). Another advantage of concrete is that it only requires a base sub-course between the main layer and the ground. This translates to less work.

When you size it up, concrete has many advantages over asphalt. Concrete offers an excellent combination of strength and durability while being easier to work with over asphalt.
